Power Player 2021: Zach Tran, Diamondback Investment Group

What makes him a Power Player: One of two principal partners — Hal Kern is the other — in Diamondback, Tran has been the front man in several big projects. After Jamestown rejected Diamondback’s rezoning requests for the 460-acre-plus former Johnson farm, Diamondback sold the property to D.R. Horton for $18 million in July. Two months later, Diamondback  sold a 47-acre tract in Kernersville planned for townhomes to D.R. Horton for $4.46 million, then in October sold an apartment community it was building in Burlington for $36.2 million. In August, Greensboro approved Diamondback’s plan to build 1,400 homes on 384 acres off McConnell Road in eastern Guilford County.
